To thus pretend that the problem in Afghanistan can be solved by the Afghan government alone, or even that there is an AF-PAK solution, is the height of folly. A coalition conference, of the type announced by Brown, therefore, will achieve nothing. The Western powers, including President Obama, leading the US, and Britain, have to bite the bullet, and open up talks with the regional players, otherwise there is absolutely no chance of a resolution…..Richard North

America’s secret Islamists wage war for us today, only this time, they are killing our allies in Pakistan, opening the gates to an outright American invasion, to protect the land routes into Afghanistan. The angry reaction in Pakistan to Seymour Hersh’s article in the New Yorker, once viewed in the context of its ludicrous contents, seems justifiable. The long winded report (7000 words approx) is based on unnamed sources, its contents stand repudiated by government officials in Pakistan and US and the hypotheses it outlines don’t even pass muster of plain ‘common sense’. …….Iftikhar Momin
